PassAssured and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) work in coordination to allow students and individuals the option to purchase training and certification materials together as of November 2018.
Individuals, pharmacies, chain stores, and schools have the flexibility to purchase PassAssured’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP©) and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam® (PTCE®) to streamline training and national certification. The introduction of this package allows schools to monitor their students’ progress from the date of enrollment in the PTTP© to certification. (Schools will continue to receive access to the Educator Control Panel.)
PassAssured offers the PTCE as a service and receives no compensation from PTCB or other parties for this package deal.
Employees of PassAssured cannot see individual account screens from the PTCB or Pearson Vue Testing Centers. Should any questions or concerns arise regarding PTCB or Pearson Vue accounts, please call customer service with the appropriate company for assistance (PTCB or Pearson Vue).

PTCE® is PTCB’s certification exam and is nationally recognized by Boards of Pharmacy and is accredited by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
To be eligible for the PTCE students must:
- Fully disclose of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions.
- Comply with all applicable PTCB Certification policies
- NOTE: High School graduation and 18 years of age are no longer requirements.
“Beginning January 1, 2020, candidates must complete a PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program OR equivalent work experience in order to be eligible. To be eligible for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) under the 2020 requirement, a candidate must complete one of the following:
Pathway 1: A PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program (or completion within 60 days).
Pathway 2: Equivalent work experience as a pharmacy technician (min. 500 hours). This alternative path will serve experienced pharmacy technicians who were not in a position to attend a PTCB-recognized program.”
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), is a non-governmental organization that administers the PTCE. In addition, they maintain pharmacy technician certification records and manage the certification renewal process. PTCB certification is recognized in every state and Washington D.C. and a requirement of many. This new relationship is an opportunity that will change the landscape of training and certifying pharmacy technicians.
